Export Packaging for Channel Letters
Good export packing protects more than the face of a letter. It controls movement, isolates hardware, identifies parts and gives the installer a shipment that can be checked before traveling to site.

Begin With the Damage Risks
Painted returns can scratch, acrylic faces can crack, polished metal can mark and mounting studs can puncture adjacent parts. The packing design should identify which surfaces may touch, where loads will be carried and how the carton will be handled.
Packaging also needs to survive intermediate handling, not only the main flight or container movement. Consolidation warehouses, customs inspections and final-mile delivery may change orientation or reopen cartons.
Protect Faces Without Creating Pressure
Protective film helps with surface contact but does not replace structural support. Soft interlayers should be clean and non-abrasive. Supports should contact suitable edges or strong sections rather than loading a thin acrylic face or projecting trim.
Letters with different depths or fragile strokes should not be tightly stacked merely to reduce carton size. A smaller freight volume is not a saving if the parts arrive deformed.

Send the dimensions, quantity, installation conditions and destination for a preliminary review.
Separate Hardware and Electrical Parts
Studs, nuts, spacers, templates, power supplies and cables should be grouped and labeled. Loose metal hardware must not move against painted or polished surfaces. When electrical parts ship separately, the packing list should show which sign set they belong to.
- Use sealed, identified bags for each installation set.
- Protect cable exits from bending and impact.
- Do not place heavy power equipment on acrylic faces.
- Include spare parts only when they appear on the packing list.
Make Carton Marks Useful on Site
A carton number alone is often insufficient. Add the buyer-approved project number, elevation, store location or letter range. The installer should be able to match packages to the drawing without unpacking the complete shipment.
For anonymous or white-label shipping, confirm which manufacturer details may appear on customs and product documents while keeping consumer-facing labels neutral.
Choose Carton or Case by Construction
Reinforced cartons can work for many individual letters when internal supports are correctly designed. Larger assemblies, glass-like optical components, projecting brackets or high-value finishes may justify a wooden case or hybrid pack. The choice should follow risk, route and handling, not a generic rule.
Before dispatch, verify package count, gross dimensions and weight against the shipping quotation. Late packing changes can alter freight cost and delivery method.
Document the Handover
Packing photographs provide a reference if a carton is opened or damaged in transit. The receiver should inspect external condition, count packages and record visible damage before moving or discarding packaging.

Are wooden cases always required?
No. The right pack depends on sign construction, finish, size, shipment route and handling risk.
Can our store numbers appear on each carton?
Yes. Provide the approved carton-mark schedule before packing.
Should protective film be removed before installation?
Follow the project-specific instructions. Optical and polished surfaces are often best protected until the work area is clean, but film should not remain beyond the material supplier recommendation.
What should the receiver check?
Check carton condition, package count and visible damage at delivery, then compare parts and accessories with the packing list.
